Easter in Corfu is a life time experience.
“Nikolas Taverna”
and“Nikolas

The
Easter feast sets the whole town and island on move (796
churches).
Everything starts on Holy Friday. Epitaph’s litany takes place
escorted by Philharmonic orchestras, choruses and choirs.
Saint Spiridon’s Epitaph litany is held on the Holy Saturday,
escorted by His Relics too in memory of the famine salvation.
 At
11 o clock the first Resurrection also takes place, which is a
real festive explosion. Out of the decorated windows with the
damask tissues hundreds of vases made of clay (botides) are
thrown. The break makes a lot of noise in memory of an indefinite
medieval exorcism, with which they expelled the evil and
frightened the Lord’s enemies.
The
day ends up with the Resurrection liturgy, with the churches in
the villages full of people candles and fireworks.
Easter day the feast begins. “Nikolas Taverna” prepares for its
guests the traditional lamp, lots of wine, music and dancing till
late.
